The Scottish Beacon is a new way of doing journalism.
Developed by the award-winning non profit, Greater Govanhill CIC, it is a collaborative of community media that offers organisations a direct and trusted route to reach new audiences in communities across Scotland.
So, what’s in it for you and your organisation?
- Firstly, your advertising spend can match your brand values. It’s a win-win!
- Secondly, community media is locally-owned and embedded in the local area, meaning it is trusted by readers.
- Plus, by prioritising ethical media buying with a community-focused approach, you can invest in your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through your marketing.
- And locally-owned media can shift the focus from big corporations to communities, building a more inclusive and diverse information ecosystem.
Some of the reasons why you should advertise your work using community media
What you get with independent, local community media
- locally-owned and part of the community
- values and social impact driven
- rooted in care for their communities
- engaged audiences
- trusted by readers
- platform for under-represented voices
The Alternative: Legacy media, big tech platforms
- corporate ownership
- media monopolies
- driven by increasing profits for distant shareholders
- so many adverts, that online content becomes unreadable
- profit-driven click-bait culture encourages sensationalism
- sews mistrust and increases polarisation
