In July 2024 the Scottish government selected Galloway as a possible location for a new national park. The region, which came out on top from a shortlist of 5, will be the subject of a consultation and an investigation of its sustainability.

The Glenkens Gazette (the local publication for the area and Scottish Beacon publishing partner) and Glenkens Hub don’t have a position on the National Park itself, but have stated that they think the best outcome will be achieved through wide and well informed discussion.

To support the public’s meaningful engagement with the issues, The Glenkens Gazette have brought together the relevant official documents on a new page on their website in the ‘Good to Know’ section: https://glenkens.scot/galloway-national-park-consultation

They will update this page as they get more information on the proposed National Park along the way.
