A new walking and cycling route currently being developed, the Doon Valley Trail, will provide an ‘active travel’ route linking Ayr to the Doon Valley via Dalrymple, Hollybush, Patna, Waterside, Dalmellington and Bellsbank.

The route will run from Loch Doon to Ayr along the old railway line, allowing access for local residents to cycle and walk easily and safely. Current work is on the stretch between Dalmellington and Waterside, where trees are being extracted prior to new top surface being laid. The next stage is to resurface the car park next to Dalmellington Community Centre – watch this space!

The project is supported by South Ayrshire Council, East Ayrshire Council, Sustrans, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and the Coalfield Communities Landscape Partnership (CCLP).
