At the Scottish Beacon, we’re excited to announce our new partnership with Local Storytelling Exchange, a UK-based organisation dedicated to showcasing the stories of the green transition. Together, we’re launching a 100 Days of the Green Transition – collaborative reporting project to transform the way we cover sustainability, shining a light on the everyday actions people are taking across Scotland to combat climate change.
This partnership comes directly from our Citizens Agenda initiative, where we asked you, our readers, to tell us which issues matter most. The results were clear: climate change and green energy topped the list. It became evident to us that the conversation around the green transition is one that needs to be front and centre in our reporting.
Over the next three months, from September to November, publications within the Scottish Beacon network, stretching from Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway, will be on the lookout for stories of real change happening in local communities. Whether it’s an innovative renewable energy project or neighbours coming together to reduce waste, we want to amplify those stories that show how the green transition is already taking shape.
As Rhiannon Davies, our founder and editor, put it: “Our approach to local journalism has always been about putting communities first. By listening to the issues that matter most, we’re able to highlight the incredible efforts already underway. The green transition is something happening at the grassroots, and this project gives us the opportunity to inspire more action by sharing these stories across communities.”
Some of the publications that plan to take part include Greater Govanhill, Broughton Spurtle, Glenkens Gazette, Forres Online, Shetland News, Fios, Bylines Scotland, Kyle Chronicle, Crail Matters,The Clydesider, C&B News, Lochside Press, The Bellman, Midlothian View. We believe this collaboration will help connect communities across the country, showcasing the small but significant steps that individuals and groups are taking towards a greener future.
Clare Harris, Scotland Lead for Local Storytelling Exchange, shares our enthusiasm: “There’s so much inspiring work happening in Scotland to build a cleaner and greener future. We’re thrilled to partner with Scottish Beacon and can’t wait to see the stories that emerge from these vibrant communities.”
We look forward to sharing these stories with you over the coming months. Keep an eye on our 100 Days of Green Transition project page, for updates, and if you’re part of a community initiative, we’d love to hear from you.
